I have not used my account since September of 2009 and before that had not really used it either. Low and behold in January supposedly they sent me a statement where they said they were going to charge fees to accounts if there was no direct deposit.

I never get statements from them and according to their computer they send them to me! So now my account is negative because of their "fees" which they did not let me know about. I refused to pay and they refused to waive the fee and close the account until I pay.

IF TCF HAS SCAMMED YOU OR DID NOT ADEQUATELY LET YOU KNOW ABOUT THEIR NEW "FEES" COMPLAIN TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BEREAU! LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD!

I just got a letter from TCF informing me that they have charged me $28 a day for not having the full $10.00 monthly fee in my checking account. So now I owe them over $200.00 for not having the lousy $10.00 fee in my account.

There was no notice informing me of any new $28 per day fee.

I'am beyond angry! What a terrible thing to do to someone right before the Holidays! It should be illegal. Even loan sharks don't charge 1000% interest.

I use to think that TCF was a pretty awesome bank. I mean they give you $50 just for opening an account and $25 every time you refer a friend, but then I started talking to people and hearing all these crazy stories about how they were getting scammed and I never believed it until now.

A few months ago I just started randomly seeing these $4.95 monthly service fees on my statement and had no idea where they were coming from, so I decided to google it and found this page.

I'm closing my account soon because this is a load of bologna. I can't afford to pay 5 bucks just to bank with someone.

Being a former Minnesotan I don't think the executives have any idea what kind of hot water mess they have got into. Another Minnesota Company, Best Buy, was a big looser in Bait & Switch Charges.

Shame On TCF - REMOVE ALL YOUR MONEY NOW. Notify the state attorney general & insist to your branch manager you be notified of a class action suit civil suit. Don't forget to cite CRIMINAL code leagalse - "to defraud, swindle, or steal, or take from another by trickery. These folks have unfettered access to your money.

Frankly, if you complain & they don't reverse, you will loose your money or your credit. This is only one of several consumer fraudulent practices going on at that bank - keep an eye on how and when they calculate balances, run, or hold off on running deposits received, etc, to maximize fees.

Its a complex algorithm with one purpose - trick you into letting them steal right out of your account with ZERO re-dress. :(

TCF is not BBB accredited, so reporting this wont make a difference, they arent a part of the BBB, also most accounts at everybank now have fees because of FEDERAL LEGISLATION regarding Overdrafts. Banks are 'for profit' so they need to make up this loss in revenue in some way, but most give you a few ways to avoid fees.

My situation had to do with my CHILDRENS account! We sat down with a TCF manager last fall to set up checking and savings accounts for my kids (ages 12 and 15) so they could learn using the TOTALLY free chekcing account.

Not only did we never get a notice that they are now being charged each month, but the statements are apparently being sent via the internet instead of thru the mail. (Apparently, if you ever check your account online, they automatically start sending the statements electronicallY). As a result, one child's account was turned over to collections for $4.95 and the other currently owes $103.00 in overdrafts fees.

I am so angry!!! What can I do?
