TCF Bank complaint by Disgruntled

Just yesterday, I tried to deposit an income tax return check into my checking account and TCF Bank refused to do it. I never had a problem with this before, but this takes the cake. I was told I cannot deposit this check, into my checking account, because the check was made out to me and my spouse, and my spouse was not listed on my checking account. TCF bank said both parties must be on the account, even though the check is endorsed properly. I never heard of such nonsense!

Listen to this part, I had a choice on my tax return to have the refund direct deposited, and TCF said that would not be a problem and would go through. Now why is that ok, but I cannot deposit the same check in person? That was the final straw with TCF Bank!!!

The federal government has the right to return any check that isn't deposited into an account with the owners name on it. There is a form to fill out to get around this and I'm sure had u not been throwing a fit they would have informed you of that.

Just so you know, most banks are like this. You and your wife could have gotten a divorce and you could have stolen the check and signed her name yourself. The bank would have no way of verifying her signature if she isn't on the account. Also by law she could come back and say that she never signed the check and you stole her money. This could happen, and the bank has to protect themselves too, you know?
